Paint Palette: Deco Art Americana Sable Brown Marigold Burnt Orange Burnt Sienna Rookwood Red Black Dark Chocolate Buttermilk Sky Grey Light Avocado Limeade Waterbased varnish Supplies: 4" terra cotta pot 3/4" wood for turkey cut out 1/4" check stencil 1" and 2" foam brushes dried flowers of your choice spanish moss Prep for turkey: Cut one turkey pattern out of 3/4" wood. Sand down any ruff spots. Seal with any waterbased wood sealer. Sand again to make sure the grain is smooth before you start to paint. Prep for Terra cotta Pot: simply basecoat with the acrylic color Black. Transfer pattern Step by step painting for the turkey Turkey body: base with Sable brown. Shade edges of body, under scarf, around star and edges of the head with dark chocolate. Turkey waddle on side of nose and under chin, base with Rookwood Red. Shade one side of nose waddle with Black Plum. Highlight the other side with Hot shots fiery red. Shade across top of waddle, underneath the chin with Black Plum. Highlight bottom edge of waddle with hot shots fiery red. Napkin around turkey's neck: base with Limeade. Add lines with Light Avocado. Shade bottom side and at tie, down under chin with Light Avocado. Eyes: outline with black. Fill in eye sockets with white. Add black pupils. Glasses: float bottom with grey sky, then float top with grey sky as well. You may need to go over the eyes to make them show up. If you want, you can outline the glasses with black or leave them un-outlined. Tail feathers: feather behind the turkey's head base with Burnt Orange. The 1st and 4th feather base with Burnt Sienna. Add curly q 's and dots with Marigold. 2nd and 5th feathers base with Marigold. Shade top sides with Burnt Orange. Add dots with Burnt Orange. Hair: stroke on with Marigold and Burnt Orange. Transfer buckle and band to pot, underneath rim. Transfer the words "Give Thanks" to the rim. Paint the words on with white. Paint the buckle with metallic-Shimmering Silver. Shade outer edges with Black. . Base band with Buttermilk. Shade along top and bottom of band with Dark Chocolate. Also shade at edge of band next to belt buckle with Dark Chocolate and inside buckle and all around band. Add a black line down the center of the band, as part of the buckle. Spatter pot with white, using and old toothbrush or spattering tool. To finish: Using a 1" or 2" foam brush, apply the Delta-Perm enamel, Clear Gloss Glaze to the pot. Let Dry. Varnish the turkey with any wood varnish. Let dry. Place a sufficient amount of florist foam inside of pot. Cut a wedge out of the center of the foam. Place turkey down in that wedge. Hot glue in place. Hot glue some dried spanish moss to cover the foam. Glue dried flowers of your choice on top of the spanish moss. |
